Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
About Our Products
What age are Seraphina toys suitable for?
Seraphina's range is designed for children from birth to 5 years. Our fabric books and sensory toys for 0–12 months focus on touch, texture, and early cause-and-effect. Products for 1–3 years build fine motor skills, pretend play, and problem-solving. Our range for 3–5 years supports imagination, storytelling, and sustained independent play. Each product clearly states its recommended age range.
Are Seraphina toys BIS certified?
Yes. Every Seraphina product carries BIS certification with the ISI mark, issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards under IS 9873. This means our toys have been independently tested for mechanical safety, chemical safety (including heavy metals and dyes), flammability, and age-appropriateness. The certification can be verified on the BIS Care portal at bis.gov.in.
Are Seraphina fabric books safe for babies to mouth?
Yes. Our fabric books are made from materials that have passed BIS chemical safety testing, including testing for harmful substances in fabric dyes and materials. Babies in the 0–12 month range mouth everything they touch, and our products are designed and certified with this in mind.
How do fabric books help with child development?
Fabric books support development in several ways. For babies under 12 months, different textures, crinkle sounds, and peek-a-boo flaps build sensory awareness, fine motor skills, and early understanding of cause-and-effect and object permanence. For toddlers aged 1–3 years, activity elements like buttons, zips, velcro, and laces develop fine motor control and concentration. Because the child is doing something (rather than watching something), fabric books build independent play skills and attention span in ways that passive toys and screens do not.
Child Development Questions
How do I reduce screen time for my baby or toddler?
The most effective approach is to replace screens with something equally engaging, rather than simply restricting them. For children under 12 months, fabric sensory books, textured toys, and treasure baskets of safe everyday objects hold attention well. For toddlers aged 1–3, activity toys with buttons, zips, and sorting elements are highly motivating. For children 3–5 years, open-ended materials like blocks, art supplies, and imaginative play props work best. Consistency matters more than perfection — even 20 minutes of daily screen-free play builds attention span and independent play skills significantly over time.
How can I get my toddler to play independently?
Independent play is a skill that develops gradually. Three things make the biggest difference: (1) Set up the play environment before you step away — lay out one or two open-ended toys in an inviting way rather than handing a toy and leaving. (2) Start with very short periods (5 minutes) and build up gradually. (3) Don't intervene at the first sign of fussing — wait 30–60 seconds, as most toddlers will return to the activity on their own. Open-ended toys that require the child to do something — rather than performing for them — hold attention significantly longer than battery-powered or electronic toys.
